Ronaldo shines in 4-1 Manchester United victory over Newcastle

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a dramatic double to help Manchester United in his extraordinary Old Trafford return.

After 12 years, Cristiano Ronaldo came back with a bang at Manchester, scoring in the 47th and 62nd minutes. The striker registered an average speed of over 20 miles per hour, shocking pundits who thought his age may have slowed him down.

To put that into context, The Sun reported that the top speed in the Premier League so far this season prior to the international break was the 22.15mph ran by Stuart Armstrong of Southampton, leaving Ronaldo not far behind.

“It was an unbelievable moment,” said the Portuguese superstar. “I was nervous and I was thinking last night what I wanted – to play well, to show that I’m still capable to help the team. But it’s unbelievable, I feel so proud and I’m going to give everything to make them proud of me.”

The other goals came from Bruno Fernandes and Jesse Lingard, with Fernandes scoring a stunning strike from distance followed by Jesse Lingard’s late effort – which sealed the victory.

This now takes United to the top of the Premier League table.

“This is what Man United is about, this is what Cristiano is about and this was a day for everyone to enjoy,” added United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United now face West Ham next week, while Newcastle host Leeds.
