The King is Back!

After finally snubbing city rivals Manchester City, Cristiano Ronaldo returns to Manchester United and bags a brace. The king of The Theatre of Dreams is back and looking as deadly as ever!

Cristiano Ronaldo stepped onto the pitch in Manchester, as the last United player out of the tunnel. He came out behind Paul Pogba and by that point, the atmosphere had reached fever pitch, with the Red Devils’ fans chanting his name and singing songs about him.

Ronaldo ended up scoring 2 goals on his return to Manchester United at Old Trafford. The Portuguese megastar found the net for the Red Devils’ first 2 goals, as they cruised to a 4-1 triumph over Newcastle United in Ronaldo’s 1st game for United since his shock €24 million transfer from Juventus in August.

The Portuguese international was thrown straight into the starting lineup in a game that felt like a major occasion at Old Trafford. He had last appeared in a Manchester United shirt back in May 2009 and he didn’t disappoint the capacity crowd, who were there to see this historic occasion.

The Manchester United No. 7 snatched his 1st goal just before the halftime break after the Newcastle goalkeeper spilled a shot and Ronaldo was in the right place at the right time to squeeze the ball into the net.

After Newcastle scored an equaliser in the 56th minute, Ronaldo put his team back ahead with a typical Ronaldo goal: He beat a defender one-on-one and fired a sweetly struck left-footed strike below the goalkeeper and into the net.

Pundits however still remain divided over whether Manchester United’s signing of Ronaldo at 36 years of age was an inspired piece of business or an expensive mistake. The early signs are definitely promising, but only time will tell if he can keep replicating the kind of form that propelled him to megastardom in his 1st stint with United!
