In their 1st match at the Bernabeu in 560 days., Karim Benzema scored a La Liga hat-trick as Real Madrid twice came from behind to beat Celta Vigo

Celta Vigo had only managed to pick up 1 point from their opening 3 fixtures, but it took Santi Mina just 4 minutes to open the scoring. He took full advantage of a mix-up between Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and defender Nacho and fired a goalward shot between the defender’s legs, with the keeper completely unsighted.

Benzema scored his 1st, as he took possession of a Federico Valverde cross into the Celta Vigo penalty area and smashed it into the top corner, to make the score 1-1.

The visitors looked dangerous on the break and it was them who netted next from a Franco Cervi strike after his back-heel rebounded off the post, only for him to tap in from close range to take the score to 1-2.

Next, it was Benzema’s turn to score again as Miguel Gutiérrez found the Madrid striker with a pin-point cross and he headed home to make the score 2-2.

Benzema then turned provider to make the score 3-2, with a through ball to Vinicius Junior on 52 minutes, who finished 1st time, calmly slotting the ball into the far corner, with the ‘keeper stranded.

Teenager Eduardo Camavinga came off the bench and scored 6 minutes into his debut for Real. Luka Modrić made a driving run into the penalty box and fired towards goal. The ball rebounded to Camavinga, who easily finished and made the score 4-2.

Benzema then sealed his hat-trick with an 87th-minute penalty after Vinicius Junior was brought down in the box.

The victory moves Carlo Ancelotti’s Real to the top of the La Liga table on goals scored, level on points with Valencia and Atlético Madrid. Celta Vigo are now in 18th position and have played 1 more game than the other teams in the relegation zone.
