This London derby sees two clubs on different trajectories. Chelsea are confident, riding high after a win in the opening round of the Champions League, with Romelu Lukaku being in top form, and has even been called one of the best in-form strikers in world football at the moment. With wins against Arsenal and a hard-fought 1-1 draw against a strong Liverpool playing with only 10-men, Chelsea are now joint top of the league.

Tottenham have less reasons to be optimistic. Since their victory over Manchester City in their first league match of the season, they have inched out victories against Watford and Wolves – but recently were battered 3-0 against a Crystal Palace side they were expected to win against, and only managed a 2-2 draw against Rennes in the Conference League.

The sub-par performance of Harry Kane, combined with the injuries to Luca Moura and Steven Bergwijn, will have Tottenham manager Nuno Espirito Santo scratching his head.

All of this may give reason to believe this will be a straightforward Chelsea win, yet as this is a North London derby, Tottenham will be fired up, and they have proved against the champions, Manchester City, that they’re capable of an upset.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel will be happy, with N’Golo Kante returning after shaking off his ankle trouble. This should be a significant boost to the Blues.

Prediction

Look out for Chelsea to start strong, with an aggressive, precise game that Thomas Tuchel is known for. However, it is difficult to envisage Chelsea scoring multiple goals if Santo has his first-choice backline available. Look out for Chelsea dominance in attack, with Lukaku scoring one for the blues.
