Can Manchester United Bounce Back from Cup Exit?

After being knocked out of the Carabao Cup by West Ham, Manchester United play host to Aston Villa this Saturday. Will they have enough on the pitch to bounce back?

Manchester United have had a strong start to their English Premier League (EPL) campaign, despite their midweek cup loss. Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men are currently 3rd in the EPL table and level on points with leaders Chelsea. Cristiano Ronaldo was again on target against West Ham in the league last weekend. The Portugal international, who has now scored 4 times in 3 appearances since returning to Old Trafford, will be looking to add to his tally here!

Solskjaer will probably make 11 changes from the EFL Cup midweek defeat to West Ham, and it’s possible that we’ll see the same XI that played last weekend, take to the field again. That would mean that Paul Pogba playing on the left, with Fred and Scott Mctominay in midfield. Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood will play in the space behind Ronaldo.

Aston Villa currently sit 10th in the EPL table, having collected 7 points from their first 5 games of the season. Dean Smith’s team, who finished 11th in the EPL last season, will certainly believe that they have a chance of beating Manchester United this weekend. However, Villa have only picked up 1 win in their last 45 Premier League games against United and have lost 33 times in the process!

The visitors will probably line up in a 3-5-2 formation, with Kortney Hause coming in for Democratic Republic of Congo’s Axel Tuanzebe in central defence. Former United captain Ashley Young may start if Matt Targett is not available at left-back. Villa should have some potency going forward, as Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings are likely to start as a front 2.

Aston Villa are without a win against Manchester United in any competition since December 2009! Expect a 4-1 home victory for the Red Devils.
