Mohamed Salah’s 100th Premier League goal is not enough for the Reds to take all 3 points from Brentford. Yoane Wissa scores a late equaliser for the home side!
Brentford held Liverpool to a 3-3 draw in a fantastic English Premier League (EPL) encounter at the Brentford Community Stadium, as Yoane Wissa netted an equaliser with the clock reading 82 minutes.
Wissa’s sweetly chipped finish over Alisson in the Red’s goal secured a point for the hosts, who competed admirably with Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool side for long spells and created enough chances to take all 3 points.
Thomas Frank’s team were given a deserved early lead when Ethan Pinnock poked home from close range after Ivan Toney flicked Sergi Canos’ low cross into the defender’s path. Pinnock was the man in the right place to provide the finish after the ball rolled agonisingly across an unmanned goal line.
Diogo Jota then rose unmarked to head Jordan Henderson’s accurate looping cross powerfully into the corner from the edge of the six-yard box. That goal levelled the scores at 1-1 on 31 minutes.
9 minutes into the 2nd half, Mohamed Salah’s 100th EPL goal for Liverpool put the Reds ahead for the first time in the match. However, after Pontus Jansson smashed his shot into the crossbar, Vitaly Janelt headed the scores level again from the resulting scramble.
Curtis Jones then restored Liverpool’s lead with a long-range drive that took a cruel deflection off Brentford defender Kristoffer Ajer on its way in, but Brentford were to have the final say!
The draw lifts Liverpool a point clear at the top of the Premier League. They remain unbeaten in the EPL this year. Brentford remain in 9th position, after what will be considered a satisfactory Saturday afternoon’s work for the little London Club.
