In the concluding part of this look at the favourites for European glory this season, we check out the two hottest prospects!

Manchester City

After several seasons of disappointment in Europe, Manchester City got to their first final UEFA Champions League (UCL) in 2021, before suffering an agonising defeat to Premier League rivals Chelsea. Pep Guardiola’s side will once again be amongst the leading contenders for UCL success. They have also added to their options with the £100m record signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa. The lack of a recognised striker raises some question marks, but there are few squads in European football that boast the depth in talent of Guardiola’s Manchester City!

City will need to be at their best from the early stages of the competition, however, having been drawn in arguably the tournament’s group of death alongside PSG, RB Leipzig, and Club Brugge. The early signs were good after a victory over RB Leipzig, but their progress was halted at the Parc du Princes last night when they lost 0-2 to PSG!

Paris Saint-Germain

PSG’s incredible summer transfer window has seen the Parisians become UCL favourites, with the signing of Lionel Messi amongst the top stories of the summer. The 6-time Ballon d’Or winner’s transfer to France reunites him with former Barcelona teammate Neymar, and Kylian Mbappe completes the forward line. Together they could form the most incredible attacking unit in world football!

Sergio Ramos has also arrived on a free transfer and the defender is a serial winner in Europe. Meanwhile, the arrivals of Georginio Wijnaldum, Gianluigi Donnarumma, and Achraf Hakimi add quality to key areas of the team. Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG are favourites for a reason. The Parisians have fantastic talent in all areas of the pitch and they will be challenging at the latter stages of the tournament for sure!
