Preview: Spurs Entertain Villa!

Can Spurs end their recent run of defeats, or will the team that beat Manchester United last weekend inflict more woes on the North London Club?

Tottenham Hotspur will be looking to end a run of 3 consecutive Premier League defeats when they play host to Aston Villa in Sunday afternoon’s English Premier League (EPL) battle. Nuno Espirito Santo’s Spurs side were thrashed 1-3 by Arsenal in the most recent North London derby last weekend. Meanwhile, Dean Smith’s side claimed a fantastic 1-0 win against Manchester United.

Tottenham are expected to still be without Ryan Sessegnon and Steven Bergwijn for the visit of the West Midlands side. However, Santo has no fresh injury concerns to report from Thursday’s Conference League 5-1 win against Slovenian side NŠ Mura.

Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez, Hugo Lloris, and Emerson Royal should all get recalls in defensive areas, while midfielder Giovani Lo Celso will be hoping for a start after a man-of-the-match performance on Thursday.

Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Lucas Moura will complete a reshuffle in attack, with the former seeking to avoid a 6th goalless EPL game in a row.

For Aston Villa, Axel Tuanzebe is back in contention after he was ineligible to face his parent club, but Morgan Sanson and Leon Bailey will probably remain on the sidelines until after the international break alongside long-term absentees Keinan Davis and Trezeguet.

However, Smith certainly has no reason to make any changes to the XI which got the job done so well against Manchester United. That would mean another start in midfield for Jacob Ramsey, who is linked with a possible move to The Red Devils.

Forward Ollie Watkins will hope to justify his recall to the England squad this week. Meanwhile, fellow frontman Danny Ings is aiming to build on a stellar record of 6 goals from his last 6 encounters with Tottenham in all tournaments!

Kane got a hat-trick against Mura last week, so he will be hoping to bring this goalscoring form back from Slovenia. However, Aston Villa will still be buzzing after last weekend’s win in Manchester. Expect a 1-1 draw.
