Manchester United Drop Points at Home Again!

Saturday’s game at The Theatre of Dreams finishes all square at 1-1, after Andros Townsend’s second-half strike cancels out Anthony Martial’s effort.

Andros Townsend’s second-half equaliser earned Rafael Benitez’s Everton side a well-deserved point against Manchester United at Old Trafford in this English Premier League (EPL) encounter.

Against the run of play, Everton went behind just before the break. Anthony Martial scored for the first time since February, when he picked up Bruno Fernandes’ beautifully weighted through-ball and calmly finished past Jordan Pickford in the Everton goal.

However, Demarai Gray then escaped the attentions of Fred and Aaron Wan-Bissaka wide on the left, before he linked up with Abdoulaye Doucoure. The move ended with Townsend driving a low, 65th-minute shot into the net from the Frenchman’s lay-off. David De Gea between the United sticks didn’t even move as the Everton man’s effort went just inside his right post.

Townsend celebrated his goal in the style of Cristiano Ronaldo. However, the Portuguese attacker didn’t provide any celebrations, as he came off the bench in the 57th minute, but had no impact on the game.

Everton thought they had a winner 4 minutes before the final whistle, but VAR intervened to rule Yerry Mina’s tap-in out for offside.

The result completes a decidedly poor run of home results for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team, who lost against Aston Villa 7 days ago in the EPL, after being knocked out of the EFL Cup by West Ham United.

Manchester United are now 3rd in the EPL table on 14 points. Everton also have 14 but have an inferior goal difference to the Red Devils. They now sit in 4th.
