Tottenham Take all 3 Points!

Tottenham Hotspur earn a much-needed win. A goal from Pierre-Emile Højbjerg and an own goal from Matt Targett are enough for a 2-1 victory for the North Londoners!

Spurs manager Nuno Espirito Santo said his players are “unstoppable” when they are confident, after seeing them return to form in a much-needed English Premier League (EPL) victory over Aston Villa.

Tottenham were thrashed at North London rivals Arsenal in the last of 3 straight EPL losses before Sunday’s game, but here they showed some improvement. The North London club produced a display that wasn’t perfect but at least showed greater defensive organisation and more attacking threat.

Son Heung-min was bright as usual. The South Korean provided two assists, while Lucas Moura looked sharp and Harry Kane was much more involved than he has been recently.

Tottenham’s first was a coolly-taken finish from midfielder Pierre Emile-Hojbjerg. Son rolled the ball to the Dane on the edge of the box and he passed the ball into the bottom right corner, past Villa keeper Emiliano Martinez.

Dean Smith’s Villa then equalised on 67 minutes. Ollie Watkins finished from point-blank range, after a killer ball into the box from Targett.

The creator of the 2nd goal then turned into the villain for Villa. Targett stabbed the ball into his own net, under pressure from Moura just four minutes later.

“We are aware we have been through a tough moment. When the players gel and combine they can do very well. We have to find the balance between the defensive and attacking part of the game. All the players did well, we have talented players and when they are confident, they are unstoppable.”

Spurs had many chances to kill off the game, but they failed to convert. The most notable of these was a Martinez save to deny Kane his first league goal of the season.

Spurs now move up to 8th place in the EPL table. with 12 points. Villa drop to 10th, with 10 points.
