These Euro 2020 semi-finalists meet again at the San Siro on Wednesday evening. Do Spain have what it takes to win in Milan?

Spain will be looking for revenge for their Euro 2020 semi-final defeat to Italy when the two sides meet in this UEFA Nations League semi-final on Wednesday evening. Luis Enrique’s Spain side took top spot in League A Group 4 to advance to the final four, while Italy, the reigning European champions, went six games unbeaten in League A Group 1 and also finished top of their group.

Roberto Mancini’s Italy must manage without star striker Ciro Immobile. The Lazio hitman was forced to withdraw from the squad through injury. Defender Rafael Toloi and midfielder Matteo Pessina are also on the Italian injury list and won’t be playing a part here.

Immobile’s absence could see Moise Kean given the opportunity to lead the attacking line, with Lorenzo Insigne and Federico Chiesa in the other advanced positions. The rest of the team will probably be similar to the Euro 2020 Italian team.

Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini should form a highly effective defensive partnership again. They now have 224 international caps between them! Emerson should continue on the left side of defence, after Leonardo Spinazzola picked up an achilles injury at the Euros that he still hasn’t recovered from. 

Spain’s Euro 2020 players that are missing here through injury are Thiago Alcantra, Pedri, Dani Olmo, and Alvaro Morata. Meanwhile, Diego Llorente, Jordi Alba, and Adama Traore will not be making the trip either. 

Tottenham Hotspur’s Bryan Gil has been given a call up to replace another casualty in Marcos Llorente, while the uncapped Yeremi Pino and Gavi have also been selected for the Spain squad.

Unai Simon should keep his place in goal despite David de Gea’s return to form, while Ferran Torres could start in a central attacking position due to the absence of Morata.

Spain have a long injury list and Italy beat them in the Euros when more was at stake. Expect a 2-0 victory for the Italians!
