Sané and Lewandowski are on target for the visitors in Lisbon, as this UEFA Champions League clash ends 4-0 to the German champions! Bayern find the net four times in 15 minutes!
Bayern Munich scored four times in a crazy 15-minute spell late in the second half to ease past Benfica 4-0 on Wednesday. The victory makes it three wins out of three for the German club in UEFA Champions League (UCL) Group E matches.
Leroy Sané whipped in a fierce free kick in the 70th minute and smashed home his second in the 85th, after Benfica substitute, Everton, headed in an 80th-minute own goal. Robert Lewandowski then grabbed their third goal two minutes later.
The German champions, with coach Julian Nagelsmann absent with the flu, had earlier hit the woodwork and also had two efforts wiped out through VAR review.
Bayern thought they had finally scored when Thomas Müller tapped in on the rebound after a solo effort down the wing from man-of-the-match Kingsley Coman. However, a VAR review cancelled out the strike, as the wide-man was adjudged to be offside.
Jorge Jesus’ Benfica did manage to string some meaningful attacks together. Manuel Neuer was forced into making a fine save in the 55th minute when he palmed a curled Diogo Goncalves shot wide with his left glove. Roman Yaremchuk also came very close, but his shot went just wide of the far post a few minutes later.
But it was Sané who broke the deadlock, whipping his 70th-minute free-kick in before they scored three more times in a dominant finale, to remain on course for a place in the knockout stages.
