Anfield Annihilation for Southampton as Jota Shines in 4-0 Victory!

A brace from Jota and goals from Thiago and Van Dijk sink the sorry Saints at Anfield on Saturday. Liverpool keep the pressure on Premier League leaders, Chelsea!

Diogo Jota scored the fastest goal so far this season in the English Premier League (EPL) on Saturday at Anfield, as Jürgen Klopp’s Liverpool destroyed Southampton 4-0.

Just 97 seconds into the game, the Portugal international opened the scoring. The forward then added a second later in the first half. Thiago Alcântara and Virgil van Dijk were also on target on the day.

The result means that the Reds continue to keep the pressure on Chelsea, at the top of the table. Ralph Hasenhüttl’s men are now in 14th position, with 14 points.

“In the end, it is a good game for us. We adapted well to their three at the back. They changed again in the second half. We took advantage. There were spaces in the first half. A clean sheet too, so a good performance Jota said after the game. I take advantage of playing for a good team. Fortunately for me, I can score goals, and [I will] hopefully keep doing it,” Jota told the BBC, after the match.

Jota made it 1-0 after Andy Robertson set him up at the edge of the six-yard box.

Mohamed Salah supplied Jota for his second goal on 32 minutes when the 24-year-old passed the Egyptian superstar’s cross into the net.

Salah’s assist means he has been involved directly in 25 goals this season in all competitions. The tally is more than double that of any other EPL player!

Thiago added Liverpool’s third five minutes later. It looked like Southampton had cleared the ball away to safety, but the Spaniard fired a first-time strike into the goal.

Van Dijk then scored his first goal in 14 months on 52 minutes from near the penalty spot, to cap a fine afternoon’s work for the Liverpudlians!
