PSG Power Back to 3-1 Victory at Saint-Étienne!

Despite going one down, the superstars of PSG are too good for lowly Saint-Étienne. However, it’s not all good news for Pochettino, as Neymar is Stretchered off with an ankle injury!

Paris St-Germain came back from one goal down to beat 10-man Saint-Étienne and go 14 points clear at the top of France’s Ligue 1.

After Neymar had an early strike cancelled out for offside, Denis Bouanga gave Saint-Étienne a 23rd-minute lead.

Timothée Kolodziejczak saw red for a foul on Kylian Mbappé and Marquinhos made the scores level from the resulting free-kick, just before half-time.

Ángel Di María curled in with 11 minutes left and Marquinhos provided a third for the visitors in second-half injury time.

Bouanga’s opener, confirmed by VAR after initially being disallowed for offside, was the 11th time Mauricio Pochettino’s PSG have conceded the opening Ligue 1 goal in 2021. This is the Paris club’s highest tally in a calendar year since 2012!

The goal came despite a debut for veteran defender, Sergio Ramos, who was making his debut appearance for PSG, after his move from Real Madrid last July.

Lionel Messi, who provided assists for all three of Les Parisiens’ goals, wasted a great opportunity to put the visitors ahead midway through the second half when he missed the target, after following up Neymar’s parried effort.

But the Argentinian made amends, producing a fantastic pass with the outside of his foot to set up Di María, before crossing for Marquinhos, as PSG stretched their Ligue 1 lead after second-placed Nice lost 1-0 to Metz on Saturday.

However, it wasn’t all good news for PSG. Neymar had to be stretchered off in the 85th minute, with what looked like it could be a serious ankle issue.

Claude Puel’s Saint-Étienne are now at the bottom of the Ligue 1 table on goal difference, behind Metz and Clermont Foot.
