Bayern Win Clash of the Titans, Barcelona into Europa League!

Bayern Munich stroll past the fallen giants of Barcelona at the Allianz Arena. Müller, Sané and Musiala hit the back of the net for the home side!

Bayern Munich ran out 3-0 home winners over Barcelona, to send the La Liga side out of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) and into the UEFA Europa League on Wednesday evening.

First-half goals from Thomas Müller and Leroy Sané got the home side going and the game was put to bed by Jamal Musiala’s strike just past the hour mark, which sealed a 100% record in Group E for the Bavarians.

Lewandowski lofted the ball into the box and Müller headed in his 50th UCL goal, 11 minutes before half-time, to become only the eighth player in UCL history to achieve the feat.

Bayern netted again before the break, with a Sané bullet from 25 metres out. The Catalans, who needed a win to advance, failed to offer much in the second half before Musiala’s 62nd minute tap-in confirmed their exit.

Benfica triumphed over Dynamo Kyiv in the other group match of the night, to ensure new Barcelona coach, Xavi Hernandez’s team would miss out on the UCL round of 16 for the first time since 2004-05.

Barcelona, who failed to create a single chance in the second half, and scored just twice in six group games, have lost their last two matches in all competitions, following Xavi’s defeat against Real Betis last Saturday.

“Bayern were better, superior,” Xavi said. “This is the harsh reality we have to face. I have told players that this is a turning-point. Today a new era begins and we have to take Barca where it deserves which is not the Europa League.

“I am frustrated because this is our reality. We start from scratch and we have to get Barca back to fighting for the Champions League. I now feel responsible. Now we have to go out and win the Europa League.”
