City Attempt to Tame Wolves in Mammoth EPL Saturday Showdown!

Manchester City look to hold Premier League top spot, as Bruno Lage’s Wolverhampton Wanderers seek to edge nearer to the Champions League places. Who will line up and what will happen on Saturday, when the two clubs do battle?

Having seen their seven-game unbeaten run come to a sudden end in midweek, league leaders, Manchester City, welcome Wolverhampton Wanderers to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, in the English Premier League (EPL).

Pep Guardiola’s outfit were defeated 2-1 in the Champions League at RB Leipzig on Tuesday, while the visitors went down to a late Liverpool winner in the EPL last weekend. Bruno Lage’s men therefore now sit in 8th position, with 21 points.

City lost both Phil Foden and Nathan Ake to injury in the defeat to Leipzig, although neither player is thought to have sustained anything too serious.

The same applies to Aymeric Laporte and Gabriel Jesus, who are both nursing knocks, but Ferran Torres continues his spell on the sidelines, amid persistent rumours linking the Spanish forward with a move to Barcelona.

Ederson, Rúben Dias, and Raheem Sterling could all return to the first XI this week, with Guardiola’s hand largely forced in attack once again.

Meanwhile, Wolves remain without long-term injury victims, Willy Boly, Yerson Mosquera, Jonny, and Pedro Neto. Lage also has concerns surrounding Rayan Aït-Nouri and Conor Coady, following the Liverpool defeat.

It remains to be seen if Coady and Aït-Nouri will be deemed fit for the weekend. If not, Lage could have a problem at left-back, as Fernando Marçal recovers from COVID-19.

Hugo Bueno could therefore be set for a baptism of fire on the left side of the defence, but Lage will otherwise see no benefit in altering the XI which nearly took a point from the Liverpool clash.

Many of Guardiola’s best players are well-rested and need no added incentive to get the job done and hold their position at the top. Our prediction is 3-0 to City, with the Sky Blues netting in both halves.

Manchester City possible starting XI:
Ederson; Walker, Dias, Stones, Cancelo; Gündoğan, Rodri, De Bruyne; Silva, Sterling, Grealish

Wolverhampton Wanderers possible starting XI:
Sá; Kilman, Coady, Saiss; Semedo, Neves, Dendoncker, Aït-Nouri; Traoré, Jiménez, Hwang
