Benzema, Asensio on Target in Massive Madrid Derby!

Real Madrid’s Galácticos have too much for city rivals, Atlético. Vinícius Júnior provides both assists, as Karim Benzema and Marco Asensio find the back of the net for the hosts!

Real Madrid won their 10th game on the bounce to beat neighbours, Atlético Madrid, and move eight points clear of Sevilla at the summit of La Liga.

The league’s top-scorer, Karim Benzema, smashed in a fantastic volley from Vinícius Júnior’s cross, to open the scoring for Carlo Ancelotti’s outfit.

Vinícius then picked out Marco Asensio, for the winger to slot home Los Blanco’s second with the Bernabéu stadium clock reading 57 minutes.

Defending champions, Atlético, who are 13 points adrift of Real, had their opportunities, but the clinical hosts were well deserving of the victory.

Diego Simeone’s men, who now occupy fourth place, look light-years away from the team who triumphed in La Liga last season.

However, Los Colchoneros did force Real keeper, Thibaut Courtois, into making six saves, including one to thwart an Antoine Griezmann free-kick.

A double substitution at half time and the introduction of Luis Suárez could not help them find a way to get on the scoresheet.

Benzema’s opening goal was his 13th La Liga strike of the season and his 36th for Real in all competitions in 2021. This is the striker’s best annual haul for the club. The 33-year-old was subsequently replaced by Serbian hitman, Luka Jović, at the half-time break.

Fallen giants, Barcelona, are languishing in eighth, 18 points behind Real, after a disappointing 2-2 draw away to Osasuna.
