Stunning City Outclass Newcastle to Stay Top for Christmas!
Manchester City produce another goal-filled performance to stay top of the Premier League. Newcastle have no answer to the City stars and remain deep in the danger zone!
Manchester City will be at the English Premier League (EPL) summit on Christmas Day, after cruising to a 4-0 triumph over Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Sunday.
An early strike from centre back, Rúben Dias, as well as goals from João Cancelo, Riyad Mahrez, and Raheem Sterling earned the Citizens a comfortable win over Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, who failed to gain any points towards their bid for EPL survival.
Sunday’s result was City’s seventh league win in succession, in a run that dates back to October. Pep Guardiola’s men have so far amassed 44 points in 18 games.
Dias opened the scoring inside five minutes, cashing in on an error from Newcastle defender, Ciaran Clark. The Republic of Ireland international couldn’t deal with a looped cross on the edge of the six-yard box, which allowed the Portuguese centre-back to head home from point-blank range.

Cancelo doubled City’s advantage just before the half-hour mark. The defender sealed a meandering run through Newcastle’s half, with a fierce, goal-bound drive from the edge of the 18-yard box.
Mahrez made it three for City with a volley on 64 minutes, finishing an inviting cross from defender, Oleksandr Zinchenko. The goal was originally flagged for offside by the linesman, but his decision was later overturned by the Video Assistant Referee.

Sterling rounded off his side’s dominant performance four minutes from time, by firing home unmarked at the back post, after a low cross from Gabriel Jesus.
Newcastle remain second from bottom in the EPL table on 10 points. Last-placed, Norwich City, with a game in hand, have a chance to leapfrog the Magpies, when they face Arsenal on Boxing Day.
