Welbeck on Target to Save Seagulls in Epic Chelsea Clash!

EPL title challengers, Chelsea, open the scoring through Lukaku. However, the Seagulls provide spirited resistance, as Welbeck pops up in the dying moments to steal a point.

Forward, Danny Welbeck, netted a last-gasp equaliser, as Brighton & Hove Albion held Chelsea to a 1-1 English Premier League (EPL) draw, at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.

The result puts Chelsea into second place in the EPL table on 42 points. The Londoners are one point ahead of Liverpool, who are nine points behind leaders, Manchester City, with a game in hand. The Blues meet both Liverpool and Manchester City in the first half of January.

Romelu Lukaku nodded Chelsea into the lead when the Belgian met midfielder, Mason Mount’s corner at the near post, with a bullet header past visiting goalkeeper, Robert Sánchez.

Brighton continued to apply pressure, and they were rewarded in stoppage time, as Welbeck headed home from a corner. The goal was the first the Seagulls have ever registered at Stamford Bridge.

“We have simply way too many players who we don’t know what we can demand [of],” Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, told reporters after witnessing his side held to a 1-1 draw for the fourth time in five league games at home.

“We have seven COVID cases, we have four or five players out for six weeks,” the home boss said when asked about Chelsea’ chances of winning the league. “Why should we compete in a title race?”

Meanwhile, Graham Potter praised his Brighton players for striving right to the end to secure the point.

“I thought it was a fantastic performance from the players, really full of courage, full of quality,” the visiting manager said.

The club from England’s south coast now sit in 10th place in the EPL, on 24 points.
